Client Overview
Location: Indonesia
Project Goals:
- Install weatherproof, long-lasting outdoor kitchen cabinets.
- Blend modern design with traditional Indonesian architecture.
- Create functional storage while elevating the outdoor living experience.
Challenges
The Homeowners faced specific challenges with their outdoor area redesign:
- Weather Resistance Needs:
Indonesia’s humid and hot climate, coupled with heavy monsoon rains, made it essential to choose cabinets that are entirely waterproof, UV-resistant, and able to withstand mold, rust, and corrosion. - Limited Space for Storage:
The outdoor area was small, requiring the cabinets to be compact yet functional to maximize storage space without overcrowding the area. - Aligning Aesthetics with Local Traditions:
The family expressed a strong desire for modern cabinets that could still complement the traditional design elements of their outdoor lounge area, which featured teak wood pergolas and tropical landscaping.
Solutions Provided by Kenoutdoor
The team at Kenoutdoor worked closely with the Homeowners to design and build personalized cabinets that aligned with their vision and resolved all challenges.
1. Weatherproof Materials Suited for Tropical Environments
Using stainless steel cabinet systems, the cabinets were carefully selected for their ability to handle Indonesia’s extreme tropical weather. Features include:
- Waterproof Protection: Resistant to heavy rain and high humidity.
- UV Stabilization: Preventing surface fading or discoloration under the harsh tropical sun.
- Anti-mold and Anti-corrosion: Ensuring longevity with minimal maintenance needs.
- Heat Resistance: Keeping cabinets cool even when next to grills or stoves.
2. Space Optimization with Custom Storage Solutions
To maximize efficiency without overwhelming the limited space, Kenoutdoor used 3D design tools to map out:
- Cabinets for lighter items, such as glassware and cookware.
- Sleek under-counter storage for heavier equipment and cleaning supplies.
- Concealed compartments to house an integrated trash bin and propane gas cylinder, ensuring the space remained clutter-free.
3. Blending Modern and Traditional Aesthetics
The design drew inspiration from Balinese architecture, utilizing grey finish for the cabinet exteriors. This was paired with countertops and steel handles to provide a sleek modern look while maintaining a traditional touch. The combination complemented the client’s existing outdoor decor and lush landscaping perfectly.
Results
After completion, the project delivered outstanding results, addressing every challenge and exceeding expectations:
1. Weatherproof Durability:
The stainless steel cabinets have proven completely resistant to the elements, including weeks of heavy rain, intense sun exposure, and tropical humidity, with no visible signs of wear, rust, or damage.
2. Improved Storage Efficiency:
The custom design provided ample space for the family to store kitchenware, outdoor appliances, and cleaning supplies—all carefully organized in designated compartments.
3. Modern Aesthetics and Seamless Integration:
The cabinets’ grey finishes blended perfectly with the family’s traditional Balinese-themed outdoor lounge, maintaining harmony and balance while creating a contemporary space.
4. Enhanced Outdoor Living:
The newly installed cabinets made day-to-day outdoor cooking, hosting, and relaxing much easier. The family now enjoys frequent weekend barbecues with friends, thanks to the improved storage and functionality.
